What began with the first event in 1974 has now become an integral part of the international cross-country skiing calendar. Davos Nordic is one of the most traditional World Cup venues in the world and has been thrilling sports fans and athletes alike for over 50 years.
Since the 1980s, the stadium in Bünda has been the heart of the World Cup. The venue has been continuously developed with the experience of the local organizing committee, in close cooperation with the International Ski Federation (FIS) and Swiss-Ski. Today, the site meets the highest standards for sports, media, logistics, and atmosphere.
Highlights in the history of Davos Nordic:
1982 & 2014: The snow situation called for creativity, so snow was transported from the Flüela Valley to the stadium.2009: Davos is designated the National Cross-Country Skiing Center of Excellence by Swiss-Ski.
2010: Davos Nordic is accepted into the exclusive circle of SwissTopSport – as one of the most important sporting events in Switzerland.
2024: New with three race days and six races, including a team sprint for the first time, just in time for the 50th anniversary.
Many sporting chapters have also been written here: thrilling duels with skiing legends such as Petter Northug, Marit Bjørgen, Dario Cologna, and Therese Johaug. And the audience? Enthusiastic. Year after year, Davos Nordic attracts over 8,000 fans to the Bünda Stadium. Close to the action and beautifully nestled in a breathtaking winter landscape.
What makes Davos Nordic special is not only the sport, but also the people behind it: over 200 volunteers, an experienced organizing committee, and many loyal partners ensure that this event becomes a matter close to the heart every December.
Davos Nordic has never had to be canceled since 1974, which is a minor miracle in a sport that is so dependent on the weather and nature.
